Information we collect
Calculator inputs
Our calculators run entirely in your web browser. The amounts, rates, incomes and other values you enter are not transmitted to or stored on our servers. The "copy results" feature uses your device's clipboard only.
Messages you send us
If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and the contents of your message. We use this to read and, where appropriate, respond to your message, and to fix errors you report.
Technical and usage information
When you visit, your browser automatically sends information such as your IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, the referring page, and the date and time. The Site is hosted and delivered by Cloudflare, which processes this information to serve pages, keep the Site secure and prevent abuse. We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see aggregate statistics (such as page views and referring sites). Cloudflare Web Analytics does not use cookies to track you.
Your cookie choice
We store your answer to the cookie banner ("accepted" or "declined") in your browser's local storage so we don't ask again on every page. This value stays on your device.
Advertising and cookies
The Site is supported by advertising from Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies, device identifiers, web beacons and similar technologies, together with information such as your IP address and the page you are viewing, to serve ads, limit how often you see an ad, measure ad performance, and detect fraud.
- Until you accept personalized advertising in our cookie banner, we ask Google to show non-personalized ads, which are based on the page you are viewing and general location rather than your browsing history. Google may still use cookies for frequency capping, aggregated reporting and fraud prevention.
- If you accept, third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and/or other sites on the internet.
- Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google at Google Ads Settings, and from participating companies at YourAdChoices.ca.
- You can change your choice on the Site at any time using Cookie settings in the footer, and you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
Calculators embedded on other websites (using ?embed=1) do not request ads. The website hosting an embedded calculator has its own privacy practices, which this policy does not cover.
How we use information
We use personal information only to operate, secure and improve the Site, understand overall traffic, respond to messages, show advertising as described above, and comply with legal obligations. We do not use it to make decisions about you, and we do not sell or rent it.
Service providers and transfers outside Canada
We rely on service providers to run the Site, principally Cloudflare, Inc. (hosting, security and analytics) and Google LLC (advertising). They process information on their own systems, which may be located in the United States or other countries, where it may be subject to the laws of those countries, including lawful access by courts and authorities there. Their handling of information is governed by their own policies: Cloudflare Privacy Policy and Google Privacy Policy. We may also disclose information if required by law.
Retention
We keep emails only as long as reasonably needed for the purpose they were sent and any related record-keeping, and then delete them. Technical logs and analytics are retained by Cloudflare, and advertising data by Google, according to their retention practices. We do not maintain a database of visitors.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the limited information we handle, including encrypted (HTTPS) connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, privacy laws in Canada (including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act, and Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector) give you rights to access the personal information we hold about you, ask for corrections, and withdraw consent, subject to legal exceptions. To make a request, email us at the address below. We will respond within the time required by applicable law, which is generally 30 days. Because we don't operate accounts, we may need information from you (for example, the email address you wrote from) to find your information.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia, or, in Quebec, the Commission d'accès à l'information.
Children
The Site is intended for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The "last updated" date above shows when it last changed; changes apply from that date.
